BiographyPaul Adkins has been playing music professionally for over seventeen years. Paul started his band in January 1988, released six recordings since then, worked the top festivals in the United States and Canada, has received extensive radio air play internationally, and has produced several music videos that have been viewed across the country. He has been rewarded for his efforts by receiving several preliminary nominations by IBMA and SPGMA among others, in such categories as Best Bluegrass Gospel Band, Best Vocal Band, and Entertainer of the Year. In the past, Paul has toured with such influential bands as The Goins Brothers, Bill Harrell and the Virginians and JD Crowe and the New South. Now Paul brings it all together with a fresh new sound playing guitar and singing lead vocals in his own group, Paul Adkins & The Borderline Band. David Propst, a very versatile musician, plays mandolin for the band. Dave's rich baritone voice is so complimentary to Paul's warm lead voice that it's the next thing to that brotherly harmony. A fine lead singer in his own right, Dave is featured throughout the shows on traditional to contemporary numbers. He also is a mandolin virtuoso that fits comfortably in the ranks of Doyle Lawson, Sam Bush, and Buck White. In fact if one were to classify his style it would be a blend of those three. His stylistic capabilities are so broad that he is sought after by countless bands in the area to fill in dates when he's not on the road with Paul. Dave's knack for arranging songs has proven a big help to the continuing fresh sound that Paul Adkins & The Borderline Band has become so well known for. Dave Lewis plays bass and lends his voice to tenor vocals in the band. This fills out the trio that is rapidly becoming known as the best vocals that Paul's band has ever had. In the past, Dave was well known for his impeccable rhythm and timing on guitar, but has moved effortlessly to the bass with that same rock solid feel. He ran his own band (Special Blend) for several years out of Delaware and has learned many aspects of the music business. He is a true professional in every sense of the word and is a welcome addition to the band. It has been said that Dave has brought along the name of his band and added it to the quartet we now enjoy as Paul Adkins & The Borderline Band, which truly is a "special blend." Scott Walker is the newest member of the band, just joining in February of 1995. He is a very versatile banjo player and in some ways is reminiscent of the style of Paul's former banjo man, Ned Luberecki. He is deeply rooted in Scruggs style banjo, and is in love with traditional bluegrass music, while at the same time being very capable of handling the more progressive numbers that the band chooses to include for a little fun. Some of Scott's other influences include such heroes as JD Crowe and Bill Emerson. Scott doesn't stand in anyone's shadow, however, and he brings his own style to the band in both his banjo playing and his smooth and subtle vocals.
