Brad’s North Carolina bluegrass roots flavor the music of the group: not only is he rock-solid on the banjo, but his smooth and forceful guitar work successfully carries all The Bulla’s stylistic variations. As group leader and primary spokesman, Brad’s easy, conversational humor makes each audience feel at home.

Carol’s solid bass playing lays the rhythmic foundation for The Bulla’s unique acoustic approach, and her vocal talent shines brightly as lead singer or blends smoothly as supporting harmony. Brad and Carol both contribute creatively to The Bulla’s refreshing musical package with original songs inspired by real life experiences.

Luke is quickly establishing himself as a formidable talent -a “super picker”- and has already amassed a long list of musical
accomplishments as a seven-time National Fiddle Champion- 1988 National Small Fry Champion, the 1989, 1991, and 1992
National Jr.-Jr. Fiddle Champion, the 1993 and 1995 National Junior Fiddle Champion, and the 1996 Grand National Fiddle Champion- the youngest ever to win the title. He was also the youngest fiddler ever to place in the top ten at the Grand Masters Fiddle Contest in Nashville, TN… a feat he has accomplished six times. Luke regularly exchanges his fiddle for the guitar, backing up his dad’s hard-driving banjo and letting fly with his own hot licks. He is also a mainstay in The Bulla’s vocal department, singing lead or picking out harmonies with ease.
Jenny Anne is without a doubt the sparkle in The Bulla Family and a rising star in the new generation of bluegrass musicians. Her credentials include the 1989 National Small Fry Championship, the 1993 National Jr.-Jr. Fiddle Championship, and placement in the top ten at the Grand Masters Fiddle Contest in Nashville, TN, four times. She is equally talented on the mandolin, punctuating her steady rhythm with energetic solos and melodic fills. Jenny Anne’s vocals are natural and sincere; a warm smile makes her an audience favorite.
Jed, Jesse, Hannah, and Kit are the surprise guests, singing, stomping, and fiddling their way into hearts with that universal appeal possessed only by small children. Jed has also taken his place beside the older fiddlers in the family as the 1996 National Small Fry Fiddle Champion.
The Bulla’s numerous state and county fair appearances throughout the country have been complemented by national exposure, including appearances on “Nashville Now,” “The Statler Brothers Show,” and “The Grand Ole Opry,” as special guests of Ricky Skaggs. They have opened for some of country and gospel music’s hottest acts, including Randy Travis, Restless Heart, The Statler Brothers, Tanya Tucker, Bruce Carroll, and The Hoppers.
Luke and Jenny Anne’s championship fiddling has been recorded on Rounder Records, America’s leading acoustic label. Their new instructional video, “Fiddle For Kids 1 and 2” on Homespun Tapes, is being sold worldwide and was the recipient of a Parent’s Choice Award.
The family’s latest recording, “Common Ground,” has gotten great reviews, and is getting radio airplay nationally and internationally.
Response to The Bullas is invariably phenomenal; both young and old are thrilled and warmed by their wholesome and refreshing style. It is truly a rarity to see such a genuine example of family unity and harmony, performing a unique brand of entertainment with exceptional talent and integrity. In these times of renewed interest in family talents and values, not only do The Bullas offer a great show, but they shine with the offer of hope and happiness for every family, and that’s what makes The Bullas a favorite with fair, festival, and concert goers, year after year.
“Luke and Jenny Anne - it seems that they will be on a first name basis with the fiddling world very soon! Let me be the first to congratulate Luke and Jenny Anne on having such inspired playing documented on this professional release (Rounder Records 0291 - Luke an Jenny Anne Bulla). Well, now I just can’t help but wonder what lies ahead. I thank them for helping to continue the growth and interest in American Fiddling.” Mark O’Connor

Luke and Jenny Anne's child-friendly teaching method and natural enthusiasm are a perfect way to inspire young
musicians to move up to a whole new level of ability.
Focusing on Building repertoire, Luke and Jenny Anne
teach three well known fiddle tunes in Volume 2, breaking them
down into small sections so they are easy to grasp. The student at
home learns these pieces right along with the
Bullas' seven year old brother Jed. The tunes are then performed with
help of their father, Brad, on back-up guitar.
