"Roots of Grass" is a CD that you will find most enjoyable to listen to. The songs range from hard-driving, traditional Bluegrass standards, by Ralph Stanley, Bill Monroe and Ricky Scaggs; to melodic ballads with seamless harmonies, as DorNel covers songs by the Seldom Scene, Graham Parsons, etc. DorNel Pratt does an excellent job on lead and high tenor vocals, accompanied by an all-star line-up of "Blue-Grass Greats." Rickie Simpkins: fiddle, mandolin, banjo, baritone and bass vocals. Lou Reid: mandolin and high tenor and baritone vocals. Terry Baucom: bass vocals and banjo. ...just to name a few. "Roots of Grass, " originally released on cassette in May 1994, won DorNel a nomination at the Washington Area Music Awards or "WAMA, " in the category of "Best Female Vocalist - Bluegrass." "Bluegrass Unlimited" magazine wrote a review on the cassette in the December 1995 issue. DorNel Pratt performs as a solo act around the Northern Virginia area and sells her tapes and CD's at her gigs.
