The Virginia Squires is a group which formed in the central Virginia area in the 1980's. Since that time the individual musicians have gone seperate ways to become members of well known groups. Mark Newton formed the "Newton Emerson and the New Group" located in northern Virginia. Sammy Shelor joined the renowned "Lonesome River Band". Rickie Simpkins was a long time member of the "Tony Rice Unit", and has recently moved over to join the ranks of "Dave Parmley & Continental Divide". Ronnie Simpkins joined the "Seldom Scene" in 1995.
Even though they all currently are members of different bands, the "Squires" still find the time to reunite for a variety of shows and festivals.
