March,

Well March came in like a lion in Colorado. We are hopefully looking forward to an early spring. Dick is in Tennessee for a special meeting with a foundation that might be able to help fund some of our projects. I’m in the middle of new missionary screening. We are looking forward to two weeks of vacation at the end of the month. It seems that everywhere we go…Bible Study…church…etc. the topic of the day is “Sabbath Rest.” We are looking forward to a time of rest. Our batteries do need some recharging. Thanks for your prayers.

Blessings,
Pat Jacquin

Happy February,

Dick is in Quito teaching at an international leadership training event. People are coming from the Philippines, Malawi, South Africa, Chile, Zimbabwe, Haiti, Russia, Ecuador and the US. I’m busy leading the Training and Development week for 11 new missionaries.

The family is doing well. Last week David and Andrea announced that we would be grandparents again in September. Life is good…God continues to bless us…

During my devotions the other day I came across this article:

According to a Wall Street Journal article, Hemant Mehta wanted to find out if he was "missing something" as an atheist. So the DePaul University graduate student went on eBay with this proposition: He would spend 1 hour of church attendance for each $10 bid by the highest bidder. A former evangelical minister won with an offer of $504.

How much would you pay for the opportunity to present Christ to an unbeliever? The apostle Paul gave a lot more than $504 in his endeavor to bring the gospel to people who had never heard of Jesus Christ. He traveled many long, hard miles across the world. In a gripping account he told of his experiences: shipwreck, imprisonment, floggings, stoning, beatings, exhaustion, hunger, cold, and peril (2 Cor. 11:23-28).

In the past 2,000 years of missionary effort, valiant men and women have left their homelands to proclaim Christ in remote, primitive, and dangerous settings. Many have lost their lives; others have suffered persecution. In many parts of the world today, to talk publicly about Jesus is to risk hardship, jail, and even death.

When we consider Jesus’ sacrifice for us, any sacrifice we make to bring others to Him is worth the cost. —David C. Egner

We want to thank you for your sacrifice on our behalf as you pray for us. You are a vital part of our ministry.

Blessings,
Pat Jacquin

December 2006

We had all the kids home for the holidays. David and Andrea had a flight cancelled due to the crazy weather we have been having, but managed to make it home by 7:30 PM Christmas night. We put them on a plane back to Nashville this morning 1/3/07.

We received two generous gifts from supporters that allowed us to take the family to the local college hockey game and out to dinner several times over the holidays. What a blessing. We missed having Pat’s sister and parents with us for Christmas this year. Mom and Dad feel they are too old to face the challenges of flying.

We are glad to be back in a routine again. Thanks for all your prayers and notes of encouragement over the holidays.

Happy New Year!
Dick and Pat

So Close and Yet So Far
Snow falling as the concert began in Boulder

Have you ever had the experience of having something so close you could almost reach it?

David, our son, is now working as the road manager for Mat Kearney, a popular vocalist. On a recent road trip, David and Mat spent a few hours in Colorado Springs doing an interview at a local Christian radio station. The weather was quicklyturning bad and they had to get to Boulder, CO, for a concert that night.

Dick and I were both tied up in meetings and with no extra time we were unable to get to see David on this trip. It was disappointing to know that he was in Colorado and yet we could not see him. We hope to see both David and Andrea, his wife, when they come to Breckenridge, CO, the end of November for business. They are hoping to be able to extend their trip through the weekend so we can drive up to meet them. It will be a quick visit as Dick has to leave on a trip that Sunday.

Well, there is always Christmas. We are looking forward to David and Andrea arriving Christmas Day and being able to stay with us until after the first of the year. Pray for safety for David as he spend many days a month on the road.

We are grateful that Andrea is so supportive of his work and is always eagerly awaiting his return.

Into the Harvest Field
Have you ever realized you have lost your zeal? One of the privileges of working at the International Headquarters (IHQ) is that we get constant reminders of why we are where we are and why we do what we do.

October found a group of seven very enthusiastic candidates at IHQ for a Discovery Visit. This is a screening time for perspective candidates. It always causes us to remember when we went through this process. It reignites our passion once again for ministry. We empathize with each new candidate as they question their “call to ministry.”

Will we be chosen? Is this really what I want to do? Can I possibly have a part in seeing the kingdom of God grow? We want to thank you for your part in helping the kingdom of the Lord grow through the ministry of HCJB World Radio. Soon there will be seven new missionaries joining the workers in the harvest field thanks to you and your support.

Pray for these new workers
